Good Catalan GP for Biesiekirski

06/06/2022

After a hard battle, Piotr Biesiekirski finished the Catalan Moto2 Grand Prix, his eleventh World Championship start, in 23rd position, with the smallest gap to a GP winner in his career.

Having started from 31st, the only Pole on the grid quickly made up a few positions and settled into a group fighting for 24th spot, eventually finishing the race in 23rd place, just 47 seconds from the winner.

The rider of the Pertamina Mandalika SAG EUVIC Team will remain at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where he will take part in two races of the Moto2 European Championship this Sunday.

“It was a really good race – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – I knew that the first corners will be crucial, so after a very good start I did my best to gain a few positions on the first lap. Then I settled into a group and just focused on riding in my best way. I was able to fight in the group even if I was losing a little bit of time in the last corner. It was a very difficult weekend but my team gave me a fantastic support, for which I’m very thankful. I could feel the support and trust of the team all the way through the Grand Prix and that was a big part of why I was able to turn a difficult weekend into my best ever World Championship race. I was also able to pass some much more experienced, full time Grand Prix riders, which was nice. Having learned a lot this weekend I want to use that experience during the upcoming round of the European Moto2 Championship. I’d also like to thank the Polish fans for their support”.
