Biesiekirski with impressive pace in Portugal

03/07/2023

Piotr Biesiekirski impressed with a great pace during Sunday’s second race of the European Moto2 Championship at the Autodromo International do Algarve, Portugal with the Pole finishing in a strong sixth position, battling for fourth place until the final meters.

The 21-year-old was quick right out of the blocks, taking fifth position in the opening practice on Friday morning, before qualifying for the two races in eighth position. Unfortunately race one saw the Pole retiring with clutch issues, but the Fau55 Euvic rider was back in strong form for race two.

Quickly making his way from eighth to sixth, Biesiekirski then kept closing in on his rivals, catching a duo fighting for fourth position with a few laps to go, and eventually crossing the finish line just 0.3s from a Top 4 result.

Round five of the European Moto2 Championship will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in two weeks’ time.

“I’m really happy with my pace in race two – says Piotr Biesiekirski, who also took five victories in the Spanish Superstock 1000 Championship this year. – I would’ve finished on the podium here last year with these lap times, which highlights the level of this year’s Championship. After a strong Friday, qualifying didn’t quite go to the plan which ultimately cost me a shot at the podium, but we know what to improve for Barcelona and I’m really looking forward to battling at the front there again”.
