Biesiekirski wins in Jerez

04/04/2023

Piotr Biesiekirski took pole position and a victory during his debut weekend in the Superstock 1000 Spanish Championship in Jerez de la Frontera.

Before he kicks off his season in the European Moto2 Championship, the 21-year-old decided to enter the Spanish Superstock 1000 Championship in pursuit of extra track time and impressed during the opening round in Jerez de la Frontera last weekend.

Riding for the Fau55 Euvic Racing Team ran by Hector Faubel, the only Pole on the 17-strong grid took a close pole position on Saturday morning before battling for the victory in the first race a few hours later.

Despite being pushed off track by a rival and forced into a retirement, Biesiekirski knew he had the pace to challenge at the front again on Sunday.

Race two saw the 21-year-old dropping down to fifth after the start but quickly making his way up to second, before taking the Superstock 1000 victory after an eventful final lap.

The second round of the ESBK Championship will take place at the Motorland Aragon circuit in two weeks time before the European Moto2 season kicks off in Estoril, Portugal, on the first weekend of May. The Pole will take part in all seven rounds of the ESBK Superstock 1000 Championship.

“What a weekend! – says Piotr Biesiekirski, who finished third overall in the Spanish Open 600 Championship back in 2018. – Our goal was to get some extra track time in race conditions onboard my three-year-old Yamaha R1 without any real expectations, but the team did a great job and I was feeling very good on the bike already in practice. After taking pole and battling for the win in race one I was really looking forward to race two and just tried to keep things steady on Sunday. It felt really good to get back on the podium and take the victory. I can’t wait for the next races as well as for the start of the Moto2 season. Big thanks to Hector and the entire team as well as to my sponsors and fans. See you in Aragon!”
