Biesiekirski to make World Championship debut with a Polish team

04/10/2019

18-year-old Piotr Biesiekirski is set to make his FIM EWC debut with the Wójcik Racing Team during December’s 8 Hours of Sepang in Malaysia.

The first Pole and the youngest rider on the European Moto2 grid will join Marek Szkopek and Adrian Pasek onboard the no. 777 Yamaha R1 with the all-Polish line-up aiming to challenge at the front of the Superstock FIM World Cup.

2016 Polish Moto3 Champion, Biesiekirski will join the squad at the Sepang International Circuit having been too young to race at the recent FIM EWC 2019-2020 season opener, the 24h of Bol d’Or, where Wójcik Racing Team’s no. 77 Yamaha finished in a sensational second position overall.

The 8 Hours of Sepang will mark Biesiekirski’s first ever race onboard a 1000cc motorcycle with the Pole looking to start testing the Wójcik Racing Team’s R1 in Spain in the upcoming weeks. Before heading to Malaysia, the 18-year-old will also compete in the final three races of the 2019 European Moto2 Championship with his Euvic Stylobike Good Racing Team, aiming to improve on his recent 11th position at Jerez and career best of seventh scored at Valencia last year.

Once in Malaysia, Biesiekirski will share the Sepang International Circuit with FIM EWC regulars as well as MotoGP riders Franco Morbidelli and Hafizh Syahrin.

“It’s an honour to make my debut in the World Championship with a Polish team– says Piotr Biesiekirski. – I’m really happy to be joining the Wójcik Racing Team. Their FIM EWC progress and the hard work they’re putting in are really impressive. I’d like to thank the team for inviting me to Malaysia. I’ve never raced a 1000cc motorcycle so it’s difficult to talk about goals just yet but considering the fact it’s a front running squad, the bar is set pretty high. Having said that, my number one aim is to get a feel for endurance racing and give my best. We’ll be racing against some really big names, including MotoGP regulars, so I’m really curious to see what we can do.”

“The FIM Endurance World Championship remains our priority for the upcoming seasons
– adds Wójcik Racing Team’s Principal, Grzegorz Wójcik. – Our goal was always to have an all-Polish line-up onboard our second bike. We’ve been keeping a close eye on Piotr Biesiekirski’s progress on the international scene but until recently he was too young to race in EWC. Having just turned 18 he can join us already for this December’s 8 Hours of Sepang with the aim of battling at the front of the Superstock FIM World Cup.”
