Biesiekirski takes points on Moto2 return

04/06/2023

Returning to action two months after a knee injury, Piotr Biesiekirski took a points scoring finish in the third round of the European Moto2 Championship in Jerez de la Frontera, showing a Top 5 pace along the way.

The only Pole on the grid missed the opening two rounds of the season after injuring his right knee during testing, but returned to action displaying a solid pace during round three in Jerez.

The 21-year-old was fourth quickest in the second qualifying session on Saturday before running inside the top five early on during the Sunday’s race.

An unfortunate low side crash on lap four dropped the rider of the Fau55 Euvic Racing Team to the back of the pack, but the Pole was able to battle his way through the field and finish in a points scoring 14th position.

The fourth round of the European Moto2 Championship will take place in Portimao in early July, but Biesiekirski will be back in action next weekend during the fourth round of the Spanish Superstock 1000 Championship in Estoril.

“First of all I’m really happy to come back and show a strong pace during the entire weekend with no issues with my right knee – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – During practice I was focusing on rebuilding my confidence on the bike after a two month break and after qualifying I was really happy with my pace. I had the chance to fight for a Top 5 result in the race but after a great start I had a small low side on the fourth lap and dropped to the back of the pack. I was able to hold on to the clutch, quickly jump back on the bike and continue with the pace similar to the group fighting for the fifth position. That’s very encouraging and I’m happy enough to score some points, especially considering the very high level of the Moto2 class this year. Massive thanks to the team and our fans. I can’t wait to head for Estoril now and race in the Spanish Superstock 1000 Championship next weekend”.
