Biesiekirski near the points in World Supersport debut

24/03/2024

Piotr Biesiekirski finished his first FIM Supersport World Championship race in 17th position, just 3 seconds from the points scoring Top 15 on Saturday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The only Pole on a 35-strong grid started the weekend strongly and featured inside the Top 10 in the first half of the Friday’s Superpole session before a string of yellow flags on his fastest laps dropped him town to 20th

Riding the Ecosantagata Althea Racing Ducati, the 22- year-old then had a solid opening race, battling for 13thposition before eventually finishing in 17th, just 3 seconds from a point scoring Top 15.

Despite more progress on Sunday, the second race ended prematurely for the young Pole, who now remains fully focused on the upcoming round 3 in Assen.

“My World Supersport debut was very promising, even if it ended a bit unfortunately – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – The Superpole went really well, although I dropped down to 20th after coming across some yellow flags on my fastest laps, but I knew we had good pace. I was battling for 13th in Race 1 but used my tyres a bit too much and lost some time on the final three laps. We made some changes for Race 2 and the first few laps confirmed that we went in the right direction, which makes me very optimistic ahead of Assen. Unfortunately, I had to jump off the bike in turn 1 due to a brake issue, but luckily I’m fine. My first weekend in the World Supersport Championship had shown that it’s going to be a very exciting season so I can’t wait for the next races”.
