Piotr Biesiekirski won both races of the fourth round of the Spanish Superstock 1000 Championship in Estoril, Portugal closing in on the overall lead after missing the previous race due to injury.
Having claimed a Superstock 1000 pole position on his first visit to the Portuguese circuit onboard his Fau55 Euvic Racing Yamaha R1, the 21-year-old lost positions after a hectic start to race one, but managed to cross the line in the lead, with a three-second advantage.
Race two saw the only Pole on the grid locked in a titanic battle for another victory, getting the upper hand at the flag by just 0.040 of a second to take his fifth win of the season.
With a total of six podiums from seven starts, Biesiekirski is now third in the overall standings, just 17 points from the leader with six races to go and 150 points still up for grabs. Next round will take place at the Circuito Navarra in mid-September.
In July the Pole will turn his focus to the European Moto2 Championship with two rounds planned in Portimao and Barcelona.
“I’m really happy – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – It’s a great way to return to action after a knee injury which I sustained during Moto2 testing here in Estoril. I had a great pace during the entire weekend, but the races weren’t easy and we had to battle really hard. I had to come back through the field after an eventful start to the first race and then had a really close battle in race two. To be able to listen to the Polish National Anthem from the top step of the podium, with a Polish flag in my hand, twice, was a magical moment I will never forget. Big thanks to the team and the fans. Can’t wait to be back on my Moto2 bike now for the next two rounds of the European Championship”.
