Unlucky Friday for Biesiekirski in Le Mans

09/10/2020

Piotr Biesiekirski has been declared unfit for Friday’s second free practice ahead of the French Grand Prix in Le Mans following a morning crash in turn 14. The 19-year-old Pole hopes to return to Moto2 action tomorrow.

The riders of the Moto2 World Championship took the track in wet and cold conditions on Friday morning with several crashes in the opening practice. The youngest rider on the grid was one of many to fall in the final corner but was able to return to the track and complete a total of 13 laps.

Biesiekirski finished the first practice in 28th position, 6.6s from the leader, but increasing pain in his left shoulder meant he had to visit the medical centre afterwards.

While he suffered no fractures, the rider of the NTS RW Racing GP Team was declared unfit for the second session and will require another medical check on Saturday morning ahead of the final free practice and the qualifying.

“It was an unlucky start to the weekend and an early end to our Friday’s work but I hope to be back in action tomorrow – said Piotr Biesiekirski. – The grip in the morning was very low, especially in Turn 14, so I was taking it very easy but felt quite good on the bike. After the crash the team did a great job and I was able to get back out on track but the left shoulder was getting more and more painful. I was losing a lot of time braking for the left handers because of that. After the session we went to the medical centre for a check up. Fortunately there are no fractures but I was declared unfit for the second session. I’ll rest tonight and hope to get the green light to come back for FP3”.
