Tough Sunday at Aragon for Biesiekirski

14/07/2019

After finishing a solid eleventh in the Saturday’s qualifying for round four of the European Moto2 Championship, Piotr Biesiekirski endured a difficult Sunday at Motorland Aragon.

The youngest rider on the grid and the only Pole was aiming for Top 10 finishes in both of the Sunday’s races but instead left Aragon empty-handed.

In a wet race one the 17-year-old was one of the three riders involved in an incident which brought up the red flag and was unable to make the restart.

Battered and bruised the Euvic Stylobike Good Racing rider was eventually declared fit to take part in race two at his second attempt to pass the medical assessment in the Medical Center. Unfortunately suffering with the after-effects of his race one crash he had to retire at the halfway point.

Round five of the European Moto2 Championship will take place at the end of September at the famous MotoGP circuit in Jerez de la Frontera. This upcoming Tuesday Biesiekirski will undergo a surgery to his right forearm after struggling with the compartment syndrome, also known as arm-pump, during the last couple of rounds.

It’s frustrating– said Piotr Biesiekirski. – It was only my third crash since moving up to Moto2 exactly a year ago and it looks like it was a second consecutive one that wasn’t caused by my mistake. Unfortunately it happened again at the worst possible time. After a really good Saturday we were hoping to fight inside the Top 10 today but race one ended early for me and I’m still not sure why. We couldn’t see anything unusual on the data and the only explanation is that I was hit from behind but that’s racing. Luckily I was able to avoid any serious injuries but my right leg was so bruised and painful that I only got cleared to take part in race two at the second attempt. I was able to manage the pain but after a few laps I realised that I wasn’t 100% in control of the bike. We agreed with the team before the start that if it happens I’d pull off and that’s what I did at the halfway point, even if my pace was actually pretty good. It’s been a difficult first half of the season but I’m not giving up and I’ll come back stronger for the second half!”
