Spectacular Biesiekirski shows good speed in Barcelona

13/06/2021

The young Pole scored another Top 5 result in the European Moto2 Championship after a photo finish in race one before crashing out from race two.

Fifth in practice and seventh in the qualifying, Biesiekirski was impressing with a fast and consistent pace at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya all through the weekend.

Riding for the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Euvic Team, the Pole put in a spectacular performance in race two, crossing the finishing line in fifth, just seven hundredths of a second from fourth position.

Three hours later the 19-year-old was riding in a solid sixth place, just a second behind a trio battling for third, before crashing out in turn one on the sixth lap.

With four rounds and six races still to go, Biesiekirski is 12th in the overall standings with 22 points to his name. The fourth round of the European Moto2 Championship will take place in Portimao, Portugal, on the first weekend of July.

“While it wasn’t quite the photo finish I was hoping for in race two, it was still a very good weekend for us – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – I was feeling really good on the bike in practice and knew we’d be competitive. We then confirmed that on Saturday, finishing the qualifying in seventh position, just six hundredths of a second from fourth. It was a similar kind of gap in race one, where I finished just seventh hundredths of a second from fourth position. The beginning of the second race was a little bit better for me and after a few laps I was sixth, just around a second behind a group fighting for third. I was pushing hard to catch the riders in front but unfortunately made a mistake and crashed in turn one. It’s a pity but there’s still a lot of positives to take away from Barcelona. I hope that we’ll be able to show a similar kind of pace next time out in Portimao”.
