Solid Friday for Biesiekirski in Barcelona

25/09/2020

Piotr Biesiekirski, the only Pole and the youngest rider on the Moto2 World Championship grid, made good progress and reduced the gap to the leaders during two Friday’s practice sessions ahead of the Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona.

Riding for the RW Racing GP Team, Biesiekirski finished the opening session just 3.1s from the top before improving his time by half a second and reducing the gap to 2.2s in the afternoon.

While he still finished the day in the last position, the Pole was able to close in on the penultimate rider and reduce the difference from one second to just one tenth, after spending most of the second session on the 26th spot.

Saturday will see the riders taking part in the third and final practice session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, before the qualifying session kicks off in the afternoon, with the Sunday’s race scheduled for 1:20PM CET.

“I’m happy with today – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – This morning we started off where we left in Misano. My gap to the leader was similar, around three seconds, but I felt much more relaxed than on last Sunday, so that’s a big positive. We then improved the bike for the second session. I also started to understand it much more and felt really comfortable in the afternoon. My pace was quicker and more consistent even if the conditions were much worse than in the morning. In the end it was a really good day and perfect way to spend my 19th Birthday.”
