Piotr Biesiekirski Excited to Race in Portugal

08/08/2024

22-year-old Piotr Biesiekirski is set to start the second half of his debut FIM World Supersport Championship season with a pair of races in Portugal this weekend.

The spectacular Autodromo Internacional Algarve circuit near Portimao is a venue which the Ecosantagata Althea Racing rider knows and likes.

It’s not only one of the most spectacular but also one of the most challenging tracks in the world, famous for its long corners and elevation changes, which make it a racing equivalent of a roller coaster.

The seventh round of the FIM World Supersport Championship starts with Practice and Superpole on Friday before riders line up for races on Saturday and Sunday at 5:30 PM CET each day.

With six of 12 rounds completed, Piotr Biesiekirski is 28th in the overall standings with five points to his name.

“I am very excited to race in Portugal,” says Piotr Biesiekirski“I know and like this track, so for the first time this year, I feel like I won’t be starting the race weekend with a blank sheet of paper. This time I might not be starting from scratch, but given the traditionally limited track time on Friday, I still face a big challenge because it’s the World Championship after all. However, I can’t wait for the weekend, as riding in Portimao, on one of my favorite tracks, is always very thrilling. The races in Portugal also mark the start of the second half of my first season in the FIM World Supersport Championship. Together with the team, we know what we need to keep working on and learn, so we return to the track ready for more hard work.”
