Piotr Biesiekirski crashed out from Sunday’s European Moto2 Championship race in Valencia after a last lap collision while battling for sixth position.
The only Pole on the grid, who started the season with a fifth place finish in Estoril, qualified for the sole race at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in ninth position, making his way up to eighth by the final lap. The 19-year-old was in a group of four riders fighting for sixth when he crashed out uninjured on the final lap.
The rider of the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Euvic Team dropped down to 13th in the overall standings with eight races still to go in 2021.
Biesiekirski now turns his focus to his Moto2 World Championship wild card start in the Catalan Grand Prix in early June.
“While I was aiming much higher this weekend in the end I was still in a good position to battle for sixth and some solid Championship points – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – Unfortunately I crashed halfway through the last lap after a contact with another rider but that’s the way it goes sometimes in this sport. I’m disappointed but there are still eight races left to make up for the lost points. The most important thing is that I’m fine and can continue my preparations for the upcoming Catalan Grand Prix wild card start next month”.
