More Progress for Biesiekirski in Portugal

12/08/2024

Piotr Biesiekirski finished both races of the seventh round of the FIM World Supersport Championship in 16th place. The only Polish rider on the grid leaves Portugal satisfied with his progress halfway through his debut season in the World Championship.

The 22-year-old qualified in 20th place among 31 riders from around the globe and gained positions right after the start of both races at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve.

On Saturday, the Ecosantagata Althea Racing rider finished race one in 16th position, just three seconds from the group fighting for 12th place.

On Sunday, the young Pole, riding a Ducati Panigale V2, reduced the gap to the winner by eight seconds, missing out on the points-scoring top 15 by just one second.

Round eighth of twelve of the FIM World Supersport Championship will take place on the first weekend of September at the Magny-Cours circuit in France, another completely new track for Biesiekirski.

“It was a decent weekend in terms of results, but what is more important to me is our pace in both races,” said Piotr Biesiekirski. “We made significant progress in this regard, both in terms of the bike’s setup and my riding. I’m confident that this will pay off in the upcoming races, especially since the next four races will take place on two tracks that are new to me. On Saturday, I lost some time on the first laps, but we knew what to do about it and improved on Sunday. In the second race, I made a small but costly mistake, which caused me to lose contact with the group, but I was still able to maintain a good, consistent pace. We also found some interesting solutions in terms of setup that will definitely help us in the upcoming rounds.”
