Piotr Biesiekirski will conclude his debut season in the FIM World Supersport Championship with two consecutive race weekends. The first of these will take place in the coming days at the Estoril circuit in Portugal.
The 23-year-old, who is part of the Italian team Ecosantagata Althea Racing, has already completed ten out of twelve rounds of the FIM World Supersport Championship, finishing in the points-scoring top fifteen four times.
The only Polish rider among over thirty competitors, Biesiekirski has scored points in two of the last three rounds, and heads to Portugal hoping for a successful season finale.
This is especially true as the Estoril track is one of his favorites. In previous years, the Pole has regularly fought for top positions in the Moto2 European Championship here, and last year he won two races in the Spanish Superstock 1000 Championship.
Located on the outskirts of Lisbon, the 4.1 km circuit features not only a long start and finish straight but also a mix of fast and slow corners, along with elevation changes.
An additional challenge this weekend will be the potentially variable weather, with rain forecasted for Friday and Saturday.
As always, on Friday, Biesiekirski and his rivals will have just one short free practice session followed by the qualifying Superpole session. The races will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 16:15 CET time.
“I love the Estoril track, and even though I’m heading to Portugal a bit weakened after a recent cold, I’m still hoping for a successful weekend,” says Piotr Biesiekirski, who’s racing a no. 74 Ducati Panigale V2. “During the last round in Aragon, we made significant progress with the bike setup, so I’m curious to see how it performs in Estoril. The traditional limited track time on Friday will be a challenge, as well as the potentially highly variable weather. However, I feel very comfortable on the Ducati in wet conditions, and the asphalt in Estoril has good grip, especially since it was resurfaced in 2019. I’m excited for the weekend, regardless of the weather. Estoril has a great rhythm and perfectly matches the natural layout of the terrain, and I really enjoy racing there. As always, though, we can expect a tough battle against fast and experienced rivals, so we have a lot of work ahead of us.”
