European Moto2 race at Valencia

Biesiekirski unable to race in Valencia

28/04/2019

Despite qualifying for the European Moto2 race at Valencia, 17-year-old Piotr Biesiekirski was unable to line up on the grid at Circuit Ricardo Tormo on Sunday.

The young Pole was lucky to avoid any fractures after Thursday’s crash due to a technical issue but suffered a heavily bruised right elbow. Thanks to intensive physiotherapy the Euvic Good Racing rider was able to take part in Saturday’s qualifying sessions and cover a total of 24 laps to claim 26th position on the grid.

Unfortunately following the Thursday’s crash his damaged right hand was too weak to allow him to ride safely over a full race distance with a competitive pace. Despite working with his physio until the very last moment, Biesiekirski and the team decided against racing on Sunday with the aim of returning to full fitness for round three in Barcelona.

“I was hoping for a good weekend after missing the opening round in Estoril due to a foot injury but that’s racing – said Piotr Biesiekirski. – I crashed on Thursday due to an unusual issue with the brakes and had to go to a hospital with a suspected right hand fracture. Luckily further checks ruled out any fractures but the swelling was really big and I had almost no movement in the elbow. I wasn’t expecting to even take part in the qualifying sessions but we’ve put in a lot of hard work together with my physio and I was able to go out on track on Saturday. I did a total of 24 laps but already after a couple of laps on each run my pace was dropping down significantly. We continued to work on my elbow until the last moment but after the warm-up we understood that it would simply be too risky to race today, so together with the team we’ve made this difficult decision no to. It’s been a difficult start to the season as I’m aiming high this year but I know that I just have to be patient. Luckily we have a few weeks now to get back to full fitness again so I’m hoping that in Barcelona everything will fall into place.”
