Biesiekirski unable to race in Portugal

03/07/2021

19-year-old Piotr Biesiekirski is forced to miss the Sunday’s races of the fourth round of the European Moto2 Championship due to a severe tonsillitis infection.

The only Pole on the grid was able to take part in practice at the Autodromo Internacional Algarve on both Thursday and Friday but couldn’t return to action for the qualifying on Saturday morning and together with the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Euvic Team decided to withdraw from the event.

The fifth round of the European Moto2 Championship will take part in three weeks’ time at Motorland Aragon in Spain.

“I wasn’t feeling well right from the start of the weekend and had to miss the final practice on Thursday, but I hoped that things will improve in the next days – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – Unfortunately, already yesterday I was very weak and this morning I couldn’t even drive the car to the track, let alone go out for qualifying. Racing in such conditions wouldn’t be just difficult but plain dangerous, so we had no other choice but to withdraw from the event. With three weeks to go until the next round I’m sure I’ll make a full recovery by then. I’d like to thank my team for their massive help as well as the fans, who gave me a lot of support during this difficult weekend”.
