Piotr Biesiekirski will be back in action this weekend, taking part in the FIM Supersport World Championship races at the iconic Donington Park circuit. From the UK, the 23-year-old will head straight to Łódź in Poland.
The only Polish rider on the grid, Biesiekirski is contesting three World Supersport rounds as a stand-in for an injured rider of the French Flembbo team.
After a strong debut together at the Misano round in Italy, the pair followed up with additional race mileage in the French Championship at Magny-Cours, where Biesiekirski took victory.
However, the event will also be remembered by Polish fans for a major oversight by the organisers, who failed to display the Polish flag or play the national anthem during the podium ceremony.
This weekend, Biesiekirski will line up for the second of his three scheduled World Supersport outings.
The races will take place at Donington Park, a legendary British track that has hosted WorldSBK and MotoGP events for decades, and even staged a memorable Formula 1 Grand Prix back in 1993.
Located in Leicestershire, Donington is familiar ground for the Pole, who raced there last year during a full World Supersport campaign.
This time, however, he’ll be riding a different machine – the MV Agusta F3 800 RR – which means Friday’s practice and Superpole sessions will be crucial for adapting the bike’s setup to both his riding style and the demanding British circuit.
The two World Championship races are scheduled for Saturday at 1:35 PM and Sunday at 3:15 PM local time.
“I’ve only raced at Donington Park once before, last year, but I really enjoyed it,”said Piotr Biesiekirski. “It’s a flowing track with fast, exciting corners that are great fun for riders and should suit the character of the bike I’ll be riding. The MV Agusta doesn’t love tight, slow hairpins though, so the final sector will definitely be a challenge. It looks like we’ll have a dry and sunny weekend, so I want to make the most of every lap to fine-tune the setup and keep progressing with the team. I’m also hoping for some exciting races, especially since Donington usually attracts a big group of Polish fans. Hopefully it’ll be a great weekend for them. After the UK, I’ll head straight back to Poland, as I’ll be leading a motorcycle training event at Tor Łódź on Wednesday, so it’s going to be a busy but exciting few days.”
