Piotr Biesiekirski made his Moto2 World Championship debut in Misano today. The 18-year-old completed a trouble-free run of 32 laps in practice ahead of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
The only Pole and the youngest rider on the grid started the day with a 14-lap run in the opening practice before improving his time on the very last lap of his second exit.
Riding for the NTS RW Racing GP Team, Biesiekirski put in a further 14 laps in the afternoon, improving his time by 1.3 of a second to end the day in the last, 29th position, just 4.6 of a second from the leader.
The Moto2 riders will return to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Saturday for the third and final practice session ahead of the afternoon’s qualifying.
“Misano turned out to be a beautiful but also a really difficult circuit – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – Probably one of the most difficult on the calendar, but we’ve been improving with every lap today so that was good. I went wide a couple of times on my last run and wasn’t able to improve my time on the final five laps, but the feeling is quite good and the team is great. I’m quite pleased with today, although I would’ve liked to be a second closer at this point but we’ll work on that tomorrow. I know I can improve my riding, particularly in the fast third sector, where you have to be very precise on the high-speed entry into the first corner after the back straight. We’ll also work a little bit on the setup. The bike feels good and was set up to handle very easily today, which helped me to learn the track, but we’ll fine-tune it for tomorrow and work towards more of a race setup. I’m not putting any pressure on myself though and approach this weekend as a test.”
