Biesiekirski makes big progress at Valencia

14/11/2020

19-year-old Piotr Biesiekirski improved his Friday’s best lap time by almost a second to qualify for the Moto2 Valencia Grand Prix just two seconds from pole position, in 29th place.

Riding for the NTS RW Racing GP Team, the Polish rookie made impressive progress throughout the day, improving by four tenths of a second during the morning’s third practice before going half a second faster during the qualifying session in the afternoon.

Biesiekirski ended the closely packed qualifying just two seconds from pole position and three tenths of a second from the penultimate rider. Tomorrow’s Valencia Grand Prix will start at 12:20 CET.

It was a good day – said Piotr Biesiekirski. – We’ve made good progress in the morning, both in terms of lap time as well as race pace. I did my best time on the last lap, having done 20 laps on the tyres, which is a good sign. I knew I can still go a fair bit faster in the afternoon, and wanted to put in a mid 1:36, so I can be quite pleased with a 1:36.5. The level is extremely high and the field is very evenly matched so I’m really happy to be just two seconds from pole position, even if that means being last. The gap to the guys in front of me is also closer so I hope for a close and exciting race tomorrow.”
