Biesiekirski in doubt for European Moto2 season opener

04/05/2023

Piotr Biesiekirski’s participation in this weekend’s European Moto2 Championship season opener in Estoril, Portugal remains in doubt due to a knee injury.

The 21-year-old injured his right knee during a pre-season Moto2 test in Estoril two weeks ago.

The rider of the Fau55 Euvic Racing Team will not take part in Thursday’s practice sessions in Portugal. Decision about his participation in the rest of the weekend will be made in the coming days after more consultations with the doctors.

Having won three of the first four Spanish ESBK Superstock 1000 races, Piotr was looking to kick start his European Moto2 season in Estoril this Sunday, the first of three back-to-back racing weekends for the Pole.

“That’s not how I imagined my European Moto2 season to start after two great weekends in the Spanish Championship – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – I had a pretty big crash at the end of the test at Estoril two weeks ago but initially it seemed that I avoided any injury. I returned home in a good mood as the test itself went really well, but eventually I had to go to the hospital with a badly swollen right knee. There’s no bone or soft tissue damage and I was hoping that the swelling with eventually go down but as of today I still can’t put my leathers on or fully move my knee. I’m feeling better day by day and will do everything I can to race in Portugal this weekend, even if I won’t be fully fit. However, we must keep in mind that we have two more race weekends after Estoril. First, we need to speak with the doctors again though”.
