Biesiekirski completes a learning curve in Le Mans

11/10/2020

Piotr Biesiekirski finished an extremely difficult Moto2 French Grand Prix in Le Mans in 22nd position, gaining valuable experience in only his third World Championship start.

The only Pole and the youngest rider on the Moto2 grid was hoping to stick with his rivals after starting from 29th position but a double long lap penalty for jumping the start meant that he lost touch with the group.

Despite tricky conditions and racing on a new circuit, the 19-year-old was able to improve his lap times, posting his fastest time on the very last lap, just a tenth away from his qualifying result.

Riding for the NTS RW Racing GP Team, Biesiekirski eventually finished the race in the final, 22nd position, a lap down from the winner. The Pole is now looking forward to his fourth ever Grand Prix start at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain next week.

“It was a really hard race – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – After the rain the track wasn’t fully dry but we all raced on slicks and it was tricky, especially considering that we haven’t had much time on the grid to go to a fully „dry” setup. It took me a couple of laps to get a feel for the conditions but I was able to keep the group in front in my sights. Unfortunately the double long lap penalty for a slight jump start meant I’ve lost touch with my rivals but I was focusing on improving my lap times and avoiding mistakes. In the end I was able to pretty much match my best time from yesterday’s qualifying, which was held in much better conditions, so that’s a positive. Of course I was hoping for more but I really feel that I’ve learned a lot today. Thanks to the team for a great work during the whole weekend. Can’t wait for Aragon now”.
