Biesiekirski closes the gap in Aragon

18/10/2020

19-year-old Piotr Biesiekirski finished the Moto2 Aragon Grand Prix in the penultimate, 26th position, yet again closing in on his rivals.

The only Pole and the youngest rider on the grid started the race from 29th position and spectacularly made up two places round the outside of turn one but dropped back to the penultimate spot on lap five.

Riding for the NTS RW Racing GP Team, Biesiekirski was then able to keep a constant pace and finished a trouble-free race just six seconds from a rider in front of him, which is a massive 16 second less and his previous best at the Catalan Grand Prix.

The Moto2 World Championship riders will be back in action next weekend at the same venue, Motorland Aragon in Spain, during the upcoming Teruel Grand Prix, Piotr’s only fifth GP start.

I’m quite pleased with today – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – The beginning of the race was difficult but not bad, while the second half was much better. I wanted to keep my pace in the 1.55’s and did just that apart from one lap where I got passed in turn 1 and was pushed a bit wide. I tried to hold on but was losing a bit of time, especially in the last corner, but I’m still pleased with my pace and consistency. My last lap was just three tenths slower than my best, despite the rear tyre being quite worn, so that’s good. I’d like to start the next weekend with the pace from yesterday’s qualifying and keep improving myself. We also have an idea about what to improve with the settings so things are looking quite promising for the second race on this track, next weekend.”
