Biesiekirski back in action in Le Mans

10/10/2020

Piotr Biesiekirski returned to action and made steady progress during the the second day of the French Moto2 Grand Prix, qualifying for the Sunday’s race in 30th position.

The only Pole and the youngest rider on the grid had an unlucky start to his third ever Grand Prix, having been ruled out of the second practice after a crash on Friday morning. However the 19-year-old was declared fit to ride in the third session on Saturday morning and returned to the track in high spirits.

Riding for the NTS RW Racing GP Team, Biesiekirski finished the session, and his first dry laps at the Bugatti Circuit, just 4.4s from the leader and 1.5s from the penultimate rider. The rookie then improved his best time by a second at the beginning of the qualifying session before crashing out after a contact with another rider in turn eight.

“My shoulder is still quite painful but I was able to get back on track today and kept improving my pace with every lap – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – The qualifying started well. I was improving and felt that there was still a lot both in myself and in the bike. Then another rider passed me on the entry into turn eight and braked a bit early, which meant I had to hit the brake hard but unfortunately we still collided and I crashed. Luckily I’m fine but I couldn’t continue as there was some damage to the bike. The goal for tomorrow’s race is to try and keep up with the group for as long as possible, avoid mistakes and keep improving”.
