Biesiekirski 21st in the Moto2 Catalan GP

27/09/2020

19-year-old Piotr Biesiekirski finished the Sunday’s Catalan Moto2 Grand Prix, his only second race in the World Championship, in 21st position.

The Pole was improving in every practice over the weekend before qualifying for the race in 30th position, just 2.2s from the new lap record.

While he lost touch with the rivals early on, the youngest rider on the grid was able to bring the bike home in 21st position, a minute from race winner Luca Marini and 22 seconds behind the penultima rider, Kasma Daniel.

In two weeks time Biesiekirski will return to action during the French Grand Prix in Le Mans as he continues to stand in for the recovering Jesko Raffin in the NTS RW Racing GP Team.

“I’m happy to have finished my second ever World Championship race – says Piotr Biesiekirski. –  I’ve gained more experience but a I’m quite a bit disappointed with my pace. I was hoping to finish closer to the leaders with a pace of at least half a second per lap faster. Unfortunately I’ve lost a lot of time at the beginning of the race, which meant that my rivals opened up a gap which I couldn’t close in. I’ve felt really comfortable on the bike all weekend but somehow lost that feeling in the race even if we haven’t changed the setup for today. I just couldn’t find my way around it and every time I tried to push I’d go wide. I’d like to thank the team for their great work and support all weekend as well as the amazing Polish fans. I can’t wait for Le Mans now”.

“Piotr did very well again this weekend, making progress in every session – adds team manager Jarno Janssen. – He made a big step compared to last week in Misano. Le Mans will be a new track for him, so it might be more difficult for him over there, but seeing how he improves in getting used to the bike, I’m confident he will continue to progress also in France”.
