Another Top 10 for Biesiekirski in Valencia

30/10/2022

While he was unsure about even taking part in the final race of the European Moto2 season until the last moment, Piotr Biesiekirski eventually scored his eighth Top 10 finish of the year in Valencia on Sunday.

The only Pole on the European Moto2 grid could only manage a handful of laps during practice on Thursday and Friday as he fought with a severe bout of bronchitis.

After qualifying inside the Top 10 on Saturday, the 21-year-old decided to line up on the grid of the Sunday’s season finale at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, which he eventually finished in tenth position.

With eight Top 10 finishes from ten starts, the rider of the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Euvic Team ended the 2022 season in ninth position in the overall standings of the European Moto2 Championship.

“It was a very demanding weekend as due to illness I was very weak and couldn’t do many laps in practice, but there was no way I’d miss the last race of the season – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – We had a great battle with my teammate early on but that saw us losing touch with the leading group. It also meant that I lost a lot of grip on the rear after just a few laps, and I had to be really careful. I was still able to finish inside the Top 10 again and with a very good pace. I’d like to thank the team, our partners and the fans, who supported us during the season. I can’t wait to get back on track in 2023”.
