Biesiekirski sixth in Portugal

17/07/2022

Piotr Biesiekirski scored his best result of the season by finishing sixth in the opening race of the fifth round of the European Moto2 Championship in Portimao on Sunday, before taking a close fought seventh in race two a few hours later.

Starting from eighth on the grid, the only Pole in the series spent both races battling for sixth in a group of three riders, winning that tussle in race one before missing out on a repeat of the same result by just three tenths of a second in race two.

Moving up to ninth in the overall standings, the rider of the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Euvic Team will return to the European Moto2 action in early October, with the next and penultimate round scheduled at Motorland Aragon in Spain.

“What an exciting weekend! – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – Already after the qualifying we knew that it was going to be very close and that’s exactly what happened on Sunday. I was battling in a group for sixth position in both races and managed to get it in race one before taking a close seventh in race two, which I’m very happy about. What I’m most happy about is the feeling I had on the bike and the enjoyment I felt while battling and learning from my rivals. It’s good to move up to ninth in the overall standings although we would’ve been much closer to fifth if it wasn’t for the points lost in Estoril. However, there’s still a long way to go in this season, so I can’t wait for the next round after the summer break”.
