Piotr Biesiekirski aims for Top 10 at Jerez

26/09/2019

Piotr Biesiekirski, the first Pole and the youngest rider on the grid of the European Moto2 Championship, aims high ahead the Sunday’s race at Jerez de la Frontera. “For me the season starts now. I want to battle for a Top 10 result” – says the 18-year-old.

It was a tough and unlucky start to his first full European Moto2 season with the Euvic Stylobike Good Racing Team but the young Pole wants to but that behind him after a two-month summer break.

Biesiekirski already raced at Jerez last year and impressed by battling for a ninth position all the way until the final corner. A few weeks later he scored his best result in the European Moto2 Championship, a seventh in Valencia.

Having missed the first three races of this season due to injury, Biesiekirski, who turned 18 this week, is 24th in the overall standings with three points to his name, all scored during June’s races at the F1 circuit in Barcelona. There are still four races to go with a total of a 100 points up for grabs.

Sunday’s 17-lap race at Jerez will start at 1PM local time with two qualifying sessions on Saturday and free practice sessions on both Thursday and Friday.

“I can’t wait to get back on my Moto2 bike because for me this season is only really starting now – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – The first half was very unlucky but I’m coming back from the summer break having recovered from injury and I’m really to fight. I want to battle for Top 10 finishes on a regular basis in the remaining four races. Jerez is one of my favourite tracks. It’s demanding but the design is also well thought. I have good memories from last year as I was battling for ninth all the way until the final corner so I can’t wait for the weekend to start. Having had my 18th birthday earlier this week I’m also hoping to get myself a nice gift on the finish line on Sunday. Both for myself as well as for the Polish fans.”
