Biesiekirski scores points in Barcelona

09/06/2019

Despite an injury the 17-year-old Pole Piotr Biesiekirski finished both Sunday’s races of the European Moto2 Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya inside a points scoring Top 15.

The youngest rider on the grid struggled with arm-pump in his right forearm, a result of an injury picked up during the previous round in Valencia, but still managed to take 15thin race one and 14thin race two to claim a total of three Championship points.

With just over a month to go until the next round at Motorland Aragon, Biesiekirski aims to consult the legendary doctor Xavier Mir and get back to full fitness before returning to the venue where he scored a pair of 11thplaces in his Moto2 debut with the Euvic Stylobike Good Racing Team last year.

“I’m happy with today’s results as on Thursday I wasn’t even sure if I’d be able to race this weekend – said Piotr Biesiekirski. – With race one shortened by six laps after a red flag I was able to keep the pace until the finish and score my first point of the season even if I’ve lost some time at the beginning. In the end I was just six seconds away from the sixth position which I’m really happy about. The start of race two was quite hectic and saw me dropping outside the Top 20 but I was able to keep a good pace and recover some positions. However in the last few laps I was really struggling with my forearm and could barely hold on to my bike. I’m exhausted but the main thing is that we’ve made it to the finish. Now it’s time to consult the doctors and come back fully fit for Aragon.”

“The entire team is really proud of Piotr – added team manager Valeriano Rodriguez. – He had shown amazing physical and mental strength today as I’m not sure how many World Championship level riders would’ve been able to finish today’s races in his situation. He’s a real gladiator.”
