Biesiekirski ready for a new challenge in Portugal

02/07/2021

Piotr Biesiekirski is set to take part in two races of the fourth round of the European Moto2 Championship this Sunday. The young Pole will be facing a new challenge at the Autodromo Internacional Algarve in Portugal.

The entire grid will be using a new specification of tyres for the first time, requiring not just a different riding style but also setup. The 19-year-old used these tyres already last year, while racing in the Moto2 World Championship, but on a completely different motorcycle.

Preparing for the upcoming races and the second half of the season, the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Euvic Team took part in a two-day, successful test in Portimao two weeks ago.

Both races in Portimao will be streamed live this Sunday on FIM CEV Repsol’s YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/ck8EVCGc8DY

“We had a very good test here recently and I’m really optimistic ahead of the weekend, even if we’ll be facing a completely new challenge – says Piotr Biesiekirski. – The new tyres require a different, more aggressive riding style, but I’ve quickly found my way with them and my team came up with a good setup. Let’s see during the weekend how our rivals did with that. I’ve used these tyres already last year, but the World Championship bike is completely different to the one we’re using in the European Championship, so it will still be quite a challenge”.

“I really like the circuit in Portimao – adds the 19-year-old. – It’s very demanding, fast and exciting with a lot of elevation changes. Finding my way around here last year wasn’t easy initially but I was able to finish the race in sixth position and fight for fifth until the very end, so I hope we’ll start the weekend well and have two good races on Sunday”.
